Primary responsibility in association with the Cardiologist(s)/Intensivist(s), for the inpatient management of critically ill patients with primary cardiac conditions in the inpatient cardiac care center/cardiac intensive care unit. Participates, facilitates, and provides comprehensive clinical care to complex critically ill pediatric patients. Demonstrates advanced knowledge, critical thinking skills, hands-on clinical skills to provide quality level care. Serves as a key resource for communication across a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include performing history and physical examinations, ordering and interpreting studies (radiological, laboratory, echocardiograms), prescribing medications and documentation of care services within the EMR. Facilitates and provides education for transition and discharge needs to patients, families, and caregivers. Performs procedures within the APRN education, certification and scope of practice demonstrated via approved competencies.
